Democratic Transition

Based on the Uppsala Conflict Data Program, TJET records no episodes of violent intrastate conflict in Ecuador between 1970 and 2020.

Amnesties
Ecuador had two amnesties between 1976 and 2000.

Domestic Trials
TJET has compiled data on 49 domestic prosecutions between 1983 and 2019. These include 48 regular human rights prosecutions of state agents, in which 46 persons were convicted; and two opposition prosecutions of state agents or opposition members, in which two persons were convicted.

Reparations Policies
Ecuador implemented one reparations policy, starting in 2013. According to available information, there was a total of 456 individual beneficiaries.

Truth Commissions
Ecuador mandated two truth commissions in 1996 and 2007. The commissions completed their operations in 1997 and 2009. One of the commissions issued a final report, which is publicly available. The report included recommendations for prosecutions, reparations, and institutional reforms.
