Democratic Transition

TJET records no democratic transitions in Japan between 1970 and 2020.

Violent Conflict

Based on the Uppsala Conflict Data Program, TJET records no episodes of violent intrastate conflict in Japan between 1970 and 2020.


Transitional Justice Data

Domestic Trials

TJET has compiled data on six domestic prosecutions between 2002 and 2013. These include six regular human rights prosecutions of state agents, in which four persons were convicted.

Reparations Policies

Japan mandated one reparations policy in 2019. According to available information, there was a total of 1049 individual beneficiaries. One reparations policy provided collective benefits.
