Country Background
Democratic Transition
TJET records no democratic transitions in Tajikistan between 1970 and 2020.
Violent Conflict
Based on the Uppsala Conflict Data Program, TJET records seven violent intrastate conflict episodes between 1992 and 2011 (during ten calendar years), involving five distinct armed opposition groups fighting against the government. Two conflict episodes were internationalized by involvement of external state actors.

Transitional Justice Data

Amnesties
Tajikistan had seven amnesties between 1992 and 2012. Six were passed after internal armed conflict. One was part of a peace agreement. Three amnesties released political prisoners.

Domestic Trials
TJET has compiled data on 16 domestic prosecutions between 1993 and 2018. These include 13 regular human rights prosecutions of state agents, in which seven persons were convicted; one intrastate conflict prosecution of state agents, in which one person was convicted; and two intrastate conflict prosecutions of opposition members, in which three persons were convicted.
