Country Background

Democratic Transition

Based on well-known democracy data, TJET records one democratic transition starting in 2012.

Violent Conflict

Based on the Uppsala Conflict Data Program, TJET records no episodes of violent intrastate conflict in Kosovo between 1970 and 2020.


Transitional Justice Data

Amnesties

Kosovo had two amnesties between 1999 and 2013. One was passed after internal armed conflict. One was part of a peace agreement. Two amnesties released political prisoners.

International or Hybrid Trials

Nationals of Kosovo were subject to 34 international prosecutions between 2008 and 2020, which led to 33 convictions.

Nationals of Kosovo were defendants in one foreign prosecution in Serbia beginning in 2008.

Reparations Policies

Kosovo implemented two reparations policies, starting in 2012. According to available information, there was a total of 1870 individual beneficiaries.

Vetting Policies

Kosovo had two vetting policies between 1999 and 2023. These policies provided sanctions based on past individual conduct. Two policies prescribed bans from holding future office.
