Democratic Transition
Based on well-known democracy data, TJET records one democratic transition starting in 1991.

Violent Conflict
Based on the Uppsala Conflict Data Program, TJET records no episodes of violent intrastate conflict in Latvia between 1970 and 2020.
Transitional Justice Data

Amnesties
Latvia had one amnesty in 1998.

Domestic Trials
TJET has compiled data on nine domestic prosecutions between 1995 and 2009. These include two transitional human rights prosecutions of state agents, in which one person was convicted; seven regular human rights prosecutions of state agents, in which seven persons were convicted; and two opposition prosecutions of state agents or opposition members, in which one person was convicted. In one trial that involved high-ranking state agents, one person was convicted.

Truth Commissions
Latvia mandated one truth commission in 1998. The commission completed its operations in 2005. The commission issued a final report, which is publicly available.

Vetting Policies
Latvia had seven vetting policies, starting in 1991; two of these ended by 2014. Three policies prescribed dismissals from current employment. Five policies prescribed bans from holding future office. One policy aimed to declassify the records of former state security agents.
