Democratic Transition
Based on well-known democracy data, TJET records two democratic transitions starting in 1991 and 2002.

Based on the Uppsala Conflict Data Program, TJET records one violent intrastate conflict episode in 2001, involving one armed opposition group fighting against the government.

Amnesties
North Macedonia had two amnesties between 2001 and 2002. One was passed during ongoing internal armed conflict. One was passed after internal armed conflict. One was part of a peace agreement.

Domestic Trials
TJET has compiled data on 20 domestic prosecutions between 2001 and 2020. These include four transitional human rights prosecutions of state agents, in which no one was convicted; eleven regular human rights prosecutions of state agents, in which five persons were convicted; two intrastate conflict prosecutions of state agents, in which eight persons were convicted; and four intrastate conflict prosecutions of opposition members, in which seven persons were convicted. In one trial that involved high-ranking state agents, two persons were convicted.

International or Hybrid Trials
Nationals of North Macedonia were subject to one international prosecution between 2005 and 2008, which led to one conviction.

Vetting Policies
North Macedonia had three vetting policies between 2000 and 2023. One policy prescribed both dismissals from current employment and bans from holding future office. Two policies aimed to declassify the records of former state security agents.
