Democratic Transition

TJET records no democratic transitions in United Kingdom between 1970 and 2020.

Violent Conflict

Based on the Uppsala Conflict Data Program, TJET records two violent intrastate conflict episodes between 1971 and 1998 (during 22 calendar years), involving two distinct armed opposition groups fighting against the government.

Transitional Justice Data

Amnesties

United Kingdom had three amnesties between 1974 and 1998. Two were passed after internal armed conflict. One amnesty forgave human rights violations.

Domestic Trials

TJET has compiled data on 32 domestic prosecutions between 1982 and 2015. These include eleven regular human rights prosecutions of state agents, in which two persons were convicted; 18 intrastate conflict prosecutions of state agents, in which nine persons were convicted; and three intrastate conflict prosecutions of opposition members, in which two persons were convicted.

Reparations Policies

United Kingdom implemented one reparations policy, starting in 2020. According to available information, there was a total of 2875 individual beneficiaries.

Truth Commissions

United Kingdom mandated one truth commission in 1998. The commission completed its operations in 2010. The commission issued a final report, which is publicly available.
