Based on the Uppsala Conflict Data Program, TJET records four violent intrastate conflict episodes between 1980 and 2016 (during five calendar years), involving four distinct armed opposition groups fighting against the government.

Transitional Justice Data

Amnesties
Tunisia had five amnesties between 1980 and 2007. Five amnesties released political prisoners.

Domestic Trials
TJET has compiled data on 16 domestic prosecutions between 1980 and 2020. These include one transitional human rights prosecution of state agents, in which one person was convicted; twelve regular human rights prosecutions of state agents, in which seven persons were convicted; one intrastate conflict prosecution of opposition members, in which two persons were convicted; and three opposition prosecutions of state agents or opposition members, in which two persons were convicted. In one trial that involved high-ranking state agents, one person was convicted.

Foreign Trials
Nationals of Tunisia were defendants in two foreign prosecutions in France and Mali beginning between 2001 and 2011.

Reparations Policies
Tunisia mandated two reparations policies in 2011 and 2019. TJET found no information on the total number of beneficiaries. Two reparations policies provided collective benefits. TJET found no evidence on implementation.

Truth Commissions
Tunisia mandated one truth commission in 2013. The commission completed its operations in 2019. The commission issued a final report, which is publicly available. The report included recommendations for prosecutions, reparations, and institutional reforms.

Vetting Policies
Tunisia had one vetting policy, starting in 2011; TJET found no information on whether or when the policy ended. This policy provided sanctions based on past individual conduct.
